Vision
The Bend is an exceptional mixed-use neighbourhood at the convergence of the city and the Port Lands, and Toronto’s past and the future.
The Bend…
connects old and new neighbourhoods
reorients the city to the water’s edge
forms a new channel district – the first of its kind in Toronto!
A generational opportunity to bend our perceptions of what a liveable, future-proof neighbourhood can be.
3C Lakeshore Inc. first purchased the site in 2010. Since then, we’ve had a vision for a new mixed-use neighbourhood on the waterfront. And over the last several years, a lot has changed around the site!
The updated Master Plan provides a renewed vision and comprehensive framework to guide the transformation of the site and address the challenges facing Toronto today, and into the future.
Provide an amazing public realm
The Master Plan starts with the public realm. The network of pedestrian-oriented streets, plazas and passageways animate the ground floor - creating a welcoming sense of place and a waterfront destination.
Increase housing on the site & provide a mix of housing types
Toronto is facing a housing crisis. The Bend provides 5,000 new units to be delivered in multiple phases – with a mix of market and affordable housing.
Refine the mix of uses & ensure flexibility and adaptability overtime
The Master Plan embraces flexibility as a key driver. With the shift to hybrid workplaces and online retail and shopping – our neighbourhoods are changing rapidly. The Plan supports a flexible mix of uses, small-footprint buildings and resilient infrastructure.
Guiding Principles
4 Distinct Blocks
Queens Quay and Cherry Street break the site into four different blocks. Each block has the potential to establish their own unique sense of place.
Magnificent Urban Spaces
A strong network of urban spaces and parkland along the waterfront.
Porous and Connected
An interconnected network of public spaces and walkways create seamless transitions for pedestrians and a lively public realm.
Respectful Density
Height and density are diversified within the site with lower scale buildings stepping down towards the Keating Channel.
High Density Communities
A neighbourhood centered around fostering a sense of community for all by elevating public and amenity spaces.
Urban Village
Meandering spaces, variation in scale, urban surprises - all elements that heighten a village feel and experience.
