Designing

The Bend

The Bend spans 14 acres and introduces over 3.5 million square feet of mixed-use space across four distinct development blocks. Designed with intention and guided by a strong public realm framework, every element of the master plan reinforces a sense of community and place.

From the vibrant waterfront promenade to intimate courtyards, the plan prioritizes people over cars, connections over barriers, and flexibility over rigidity. It reflects a city in motion -  and a site that leads by design.

An Official Plan Amendment has been submitted to the City of Toronto to support the overall Master Plan for the site, along with a Zoning By-law Amendment specific to Phase 1. Full submission materials are available on the City’s website (to be linked).

Defined by the Edges

  • Each with distinct character and purpose, contributing to a unified whole.

  • Squares, woonerfs, thresholds, and parks woven through the site.

  • Meandering lanes, active ground floors, and human-scaled buildings.

  • Continuous access and views along the Keating Channel.

  • Safe, walkable connections prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists.

Location

Situated at the intersection of Queens Quay East and Cherry Street, The Bend will become a central urban hinge connecting Toronto’s central waterfront, the Distillery District, and Ookwemin Minising. Its location by the channel creates new conditions and possibilities for the public realm and how we build towards the water’s edge.
